What To Eat In Singapore - Suitable For All Budgets ～HK-JP-SG Cross...

I was really excited to read about the HK-JP-SG Cross-Community Challenge and had planned to write a post about food in Singapore. Food seems to be a common theme for most people and what I will be doing differently is to offer 2 different choices to suit different budgets. Whether you're a local or planning to visit Singapore, I hope you will find this useful. If not, hey I'm just sharing what I feel. LoL

For breakfast, I like to have roti prata with curry which is an Indian dish and half boiled eggs with pepper and dark soya sauce. This is a really simple yet delicious mean and the best part is it costs less than $3!

Alternatively, if you feel like having something pricier, I recommend going down to Wild Honey at Mandarin Gallery. This restaurant located along Orchard Road serves all day breakfast. You can have a look at their menu HERE. They have another outlet at Scotts Square. I like to try the different dishes each time I visit the restaurant and they all taste so good! Prices start from $15-30 per person.

For lunch, I would recommend either chicken rice or nasi lemak. We have Hainanese chicken rice in Singapore which is a very popular and convenient dish. Nasi lemak is normally sold by Malay stores although there are Chinese hawkers selling too. They both range from $3-6, depending on add-ons.

If you would like something fancier, I suggest Platypus Kitchen at Bugis Junction. I love this place because they have quite a wide selection of food and they have organic salad bowls! So if you're someone who eats vegetarian food sometimes, this place can satisfy everyone, the meat lovers as well as the veggie lovers. It will cost about $15-50 per person.

If you're feeling hungry after shopping the whole afternoon, there are several places you can go for tea as well. Toast Box and Ya Kun serve some local dishes like laksa and noodle soup. You could also have eggs and toast. Prices range from about $3-10.

Then there's also the option to dine in style at Axis Bar & Lounge at Mandarin Oriental. Price for 2? About $80.

Next let's talk about dinner! There are lots of hawker centres or coffee shops in Singapore that serves great food. You will find something for everyone no matter how picky they are. Since this challenge involves 3 countries, let me share 3 choices. If you have a craving for Japanese food, you can have udon at Idaten Udon. You can mix and match the soup base, udon and tempura.

Here's what I had for dinner. It cost about $10 for a set.

For people from Hong Kong, dim sum might interest them and there are many such restaurants in Singapore. The most famous would probably be Tim Ho Wan which was awarded One Michelin Star in Hong Kong. The menu are about the same in all countries. I don't have any recent pictures of me dining at Tim Ho Wan so I'll just post the link to their website HERE. They have several outlets so just find the one nearest to you!

In Singapore, tze char is a popular choice. This are hawker stores that cooks the dishes when you order it. There are a lot of good ones around and no particular ones that I love more than other. Some popular dishes ordered are steamed or curry fish, vegetables, prawn rolls, omelette and a soup. Some people also love to order seafood like chilli crab and steamed prawns.

However, if the above 3 choices sound too boring to you, then I would suggest Lokkee at Plaza Singapura. There's a reason why they call this the Dragon Chamber! The food there is really good and its a East meets West Fusion style. There's the Sizhuan style grilled fish, there's mexican style tortilla corn rolls, there's chow mein and there's lobster in lettuce roll. So many choices at this fantastic restaurant. Prices for 4 to 5 dishes should start from $100 onwards. We had 7 dishes for a party of 5 and we ate till our stomachs begged for mercy.
