Make Your Own SOURDOUGH STARTER (Part 1)

This is one of our earliest videos, so we apologize ahead of time for the shaky camera work! Michelle says that she is showing you how to make sourdough not be a videographer. Ha! Anyway...

This is the first video in a series of videos shot over the first few days of raising your own sourdough. So this part 1 is also day 1. Day 1 is super quick (actually each of the days take very little actual work); it will take about 3 minutes of your time.

On day 1, you will be catching the sourdough from thin air! Well, you will actually be catching yeast, but they are what make sourdough happen.

It is actually quite simple, too. For this project, you are going to need the following:

Materials

  • flour (we use 100% whole wheat)
  • water (NOT city water - it is treated with chlorine which kills our little friends, the yeast)
  • a mason jar
  • a wooden stick (we use a chopstick)
  • cloth cover for the jar

And that is it! Once you have gathered your materials, check out the video to see what to do next!
