Miss. Delicious #24 : My Iced and Blazing Crayfish experience

Dear Steemit friends:

With Christmas approaching round the corner, the colour red highlights the Xmas spirit, but I'd like to take everyone on a different food bonanza, one not with mince pies nor turkeys. Today, I'm revisiting the Crayfish. I've introduced Crayfish before in a previous post, but like with many foods, there are a plethora of ways to enjoy Crayfish and today I'm sharing another well known style.

The restaurant is called "Ma la you huo" which directly translated to English, means hot and numbing lure. They are a well known restaurant chain in China specialising in Hot and Spicy dishes. The branch i'm visiting is situated in the top floor of a big shopping mall. As I walk into the restaurant, I'm presented with a very definitive red colour scheme which draws parallels with the Xmas red atmosphere.

On the side, I see there are plenty of child seats. This made me wonder if people in China start eating spicy chilli from a very young age?

This wall of hot chilli peppers show the different varieties of spices used in their dishes. There are so many varieties that I didn't even know about. I certainly learned a few things already.

Recently, the restaurant has been promoting their new dishes. Aside from their usual hot and spicy pepper dishes, they're also making very their own very red Crayfish!

And so, let us begin our very red restaurant adventure.

When you sit down, you're offered a blanket to cover your bags and other belongings from the many juices that might spill over. Of course, an apron is provided as well to protect yourself!

These are the tools of choice for eating the Crayfish. Lets have a look what's inside.

Plastic Gloves, Dry and Wet paper towels, tooth picks and a headband for people with long hair. There's also a see through plastic cover for your mobile phone. Finally a straw which is used suck on the juices from the crayfish.

Once you finish ordering the food, the attendant will place an hour glass on the table and let it run. If the hour glass runs to the end and all the food hasn't been served, then they will offer us some reward.

Lets have a look at the very red themed menu:

This platter certainly looks very formidable, but way too much!

These are some gift boxes of Crayfish. When you finish eating, you might be tempted to buy some for your friends or family and these gift boxes are perfect little Xmas presents for foodies.

Below, let's begin eating :

These are the iced crayfish, and are made in the original flavour.

The crayfish taste really fresh. Of course, they were swimming in the tank only 30 minutes ago.

Next up, the blazing crayfish.

Imgur

The waitress brings a large box of Crayfish covered in sea salt and ignites the whole thing!

Imgur

The waitress uses a brush to cover the crayfish with sea salt as evenly as possible, when the fire is lit, this will help permeate the taste evenly and really get the flavour into the meat.

In my previous post about Crayfish, I give some instructions on how to eat them. You can read that HERE

Eating Iced and then Blazed crayfish was a really nice experience, it's like opposites that complement each other. After finishing the crayfish, I order some iced vegetables to lighten the balance.

Salad!

This is the Cayenne pepper chicken, it's one of their specialities. Looks can be deceiving, it's actually extremely spicy but tastes absolutely delicious. Just remember to eat this with some steamed rice!

And that wraps up my very red themed crayfish food bonanza!

When you eat seafood, do you like it blazing with added condiments? Or would you prefer a more fresh and natural taste?
