Dear Steemit Friends:

Today, we're taking a visit to a new creative Chinese restaurant specialising in Jiangsu Chinese cuisine. This is a restaurant that I have visited more than once, each time, I'm more and more impressed with the food and how it fits my taste like a glove. Jiangsu cuisine is an important component of the Han Ethnic group's dining culture and is considered one of the 8 main food cuisines of China. This restaurant tries to retain much of the authentic taste of Jiangsu cuisine and that means the dishes are usually light, fresh and tender. It's food that fits perfectly with the Spring seasonality.

Green Tea Restaurant was established in 2008, and now there are 63 restaurants across the country. Business at these restaurants has been extremely good and often attracts celebrities and other famous people to come dine here. One notable person you might have heard of is Ma Yun of Alibaba who has also dined at one of the Green Tea restaurants.

Below, follow me into the restaurant and let's see what's on offer. Hopefully its offerings will warm the hearts and delight the eyes with its classic Jiangsu dishes and ancient decorations.

As you can see, the design of the whole restaurant is very much ancient Chinese and mostly constructed in wood. Even the lamps are wooden carvings. Walking into this restaurant is like walking into a building from the past.

There are also some modern decorations at the entrance of the restaurant.

Inside the restaurant, you can see they've used the traditional Chinese colour of red for it's decoration theme. The tables are also of blue and white porcelain, a very common Chinese design.

Everyone must be getting hungry right about now, so let's get right to it and start enjoying these Hangzhou delights! Up first, we have the peanut sesame sauce barley vegetables, it tastes a little crunchy and of course very fresh. It's a perfect appetiser, I honestly wished I could have another serving of this but alas, other dishes await!
IMG_6915.JPG

This is the century egg with tofu dish. It's quite a common starter / side dish across Chinese cuisine, particularly in the southern areas of China but here, it is prepared in quite a special way. As you can see, it's made to be like a cake with the tofu and egg forming several alternating layers and then the top is dressed with some meat floss. The final touch is some soy sauce. Eating it actually reminds me of eating a cake, you use a knife to cut it just like you would on a cake, but this way you get to eat both the egg and the tofu.

Iced radish and okra, very fresh and very tasty.
IMG_3211.JPG
Blazing prawns, these are wrapped in Tin to preserve it's warmth coming straight out from the furnace.
IMG_3213.JPG
With a bit of soy sauce, these prawns taste absolutely delicious, the shell is very crispy and actually edible!
IMG_6939.JPG
Beef and Potato curry.
IMG_6948.JPG
Next up, the signature dish of the Green Tea restaurant, the barbeque roast.
IMG_6933.JPG

The main ingredients for the roast are Streaky Pork, light soy sauce, ground pepper, salt, cumin powder, garlic cloves. These are then put under a fire and barbecued.

IMG_6936.JPG
The meat is somewhere between fatty and lean, in my opinion just perfect!
IMG_6922.JPG
This is Milk Froth Green Tea with some pine nuts. Very refreshing.
IMG_6957.JPG
Crystal noodles, these are slightly spicy, balanced out with some cucumber streaks.
IMG_3210.JPG
This is another famous dish here, it's called the Spring Water frog, from the hot chilli peppers you can tell this is a very spicy dish. That said, the meat is ever so tender, tastes like a softer version of chicken!
IMG_6952.JPG
Of course, after eating some spicy dishes, we can't forget about the dessert. Here are some mini green tea cakes. Inside is sweetened bean paste, on the outside, it is garnished with white sugar and sesame seeds. I must say it really satisfies my sweet tooth and tastes fabulous.
IMG_3209.JPG
This is mango pomelo sago, the final dessert and a more light and refreshing one. It's quite a unique taste because it combines the sweetness of the mango with the slightly sour taste of the grapefruit. The sago and condensed milk and coconut milk add the final touch of sweetness. It really is a refreshing dessert to finish off a wonderful meal.
