Dining Out - Beulah Bistro and Bakery, Ysterfontein

Over the next few days I will be blogging about our 3 day trip up the West Coast of Cape Town, a trip which we postponed for two decades. Halfway to our destination which was Langebaan we stopped for an early lunch at a small, very popular farm stall called Beulah's. A very laid back arty establishment as could be seen by the garden .... a heart shaped garden bed with the word 'Love' growing inside it greeted us as we exited the parking area.

The exterior is very low key so we were surprised to walk straight into a fully functioning bakery, with bread dough being kneaded and rolled. Very few smells beat that of freshly baked bread

As we walked through the archway to the actual eatery we were greeted by the sight of this awesome yellow wood table. This table was commissioned by @krabgat's brother and the wood was from the former's farm.

The furniture and furnishings were an eclectic mix of old and modern resulting in a decor which felt homely and comfortable yet provided quite a feast for the imagination. Talking of feast let's get to the point of this exercise. As it was only 12h30 and I still had a ways to drive I espoused my usual beverage and ordered an Earl Gray tea...

My lady, @Fempower, after ascertaining that it was made fresh on the premises, ordered an apple strudel.

I ordered a more conventional meal, a 4 Cheeses Phylo Cup and Salad

@Fempower pronounced the Apple Strudel 'Excellent, the REAL deal' which is high praise indeed. For my part, the Phyllo Basket was beautifully presented, but the mix of cheeses did not work for me, with the blue cheese overpowering the others and leaving a burnt bitter aftertaste. The salad was crisp fresh green leaves and actually rescued the meal from being a total disaster. I did clean my plate, but it is not something I would order again.

Overall impressions.... we will definitely eat there again, and having bought some pastries to take with us which we enjoyed immensely that evening, we have another reason to stop by.

Thanks for reading, and all picture were taken by me
