CHARMURI - a tasty Indian Snack!

source

Charmuri is one of the most popular snacks in the beaches of Mangalore. It makes the experience at the beach complete. It's peaceful to sit, look at the sunset, have a nice conversation and eat charmuri while some of it flies into your face because of the wind!

I have however moved to Delhi and am missing the beaches of my hometown. It may not be possible to visit the beach now but atleast we could prepare Charmuri and eat it here. So my mom went ahead and prepared Charmuri today.

She wanted me to share the recipe with you guys so that you could prepare it and enjoy too.

Puffed rice after mixing oil, salt and chilli powder.

Recipe:

  1. 200 grams of Murmura (Puffed Rice). (Sufficient for 3 people)
  2. 2 medium sized Onions.
  3. 2 Carrots.
  4. a handful of chopped Coriander leaves.
  5. 20-25 roasted peanuts.
  6. 1/2 Lemon
  7. 3 spoon Coconut oil
  8. Chilli Powder (quantity depends on your preference of spiciness)
  9. a pinch of Salt

Carrot, onion and coriander.

The above image shows how small the chopped pieces have to be. You may add shredded beetroot instead of carrots too. Some people even add chutneys and stuff. Once you finish adding everything, it'll look like the picture below.

Procedure:

  1. Take a bowl, add the puffed rice to it.
  2. Add 3 spoons of Coconut oil, a pinch of salt also add Chilli powder as much as you prefer and stir the mixture.
  3. Chop the Onions into small pieces and shred the Carrots. (You'll know how small from the image above.)
  4. Add the chopped Onions, shredded Carrots, chopped Coriander leaves, roasted peanuts and squeeze the lemon into the bowl containing the puffed Rice.
  5. Mix it thoroughly and your Charmuri is ready.

Ready to eat!

Thanks for reading.

Let me know in the comments if you went ahead and prepared it.
