Healthy Snacks for the Festive Season - Sweet Cinnamon Oaties (No Sugar) - An Original Recipe

Don't bankrupt yourself by buying for the five thousand - feed them instead!  These little oaty bites make thoughtful gifts to give your family, friends and neighbours, as well as being a sweet yet healthy snack for yourself.  Sometimes it's hard to think what to give everyone, and shopping for so many people can become super stressful, so one of my solutions is to bake lots of goodies that fit easily into jars, and give them in hand-decorated jars or boxes.

You won't be able to tell these are made without sugar, but the honey, dates and cinnamon give them all the sweetness needed.  I don't know about you but I intend to eat very little sugar this Christmas, as I'm sick of feeling sick after it!  Happily I have many sugar-free snacks that can be made easily and with little cost compared to buying all those tins of chocolates and biscuits and goodness knows what else.  Homemade snacks are better too, as they don't contain any of the harmful artificial flavourings and preservatives we get in shop-bought products.

I have lots of other recipes for jar-sized treats still to come, so if you're stuck for ideas, fear not!  @woman-onthe-wing is here to help you save money and stay healthy!

What you will need: (makes about 50)

1/2 cup coconut oil

50g butter

4 tblsp honey

100g dates

75g golden linseed

100g semolina

100g oats

4 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp cayenne pepper

100g coarse wholewheat flour

2 eggs

Method:

Melt the coconut oil and butter, and mix with the honey in a large bowl.

Finely chop the dates and add to the bowl

Add the golden linseed and semolina and mix well.

Blend in the oats, flour, cinnamon and cayenne pepper.

Add the eggs and mix until you have a nice sticky mixture.

With wet hands roll the mixture into balls.  Whenever the mixture begins to stick to your hands, wet them again.  Place onto baking trays and pop into a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 20-25 minutes until golden and crunchy looking.

For giving as gifts you can package them in handmade boxes or jars for  that festive look and a nice finish.  I like to use jars, and I  decorated them simply using snowflake stickers and festive tape.  It  takes a few minutes to do, but makes the gift that bit more special.
