Yesterday Sunday family gathering was a bigger one. Some family members that otherwise live abroad (Australia and New Zeland) arrived in Zagreb (Croatia) - their old hometown and my husband and I organized this family gathering with the rest of us (domestic ones), still living here.
This time we decided to take them out of the city, to the countryside for a meal from good old homemade cuisine.
Although the weather forecast from two weeks ago when we arranged everything and booked the tables in the eco-village about 35 kilometers out of town, tricked us a bit, we still had a wonderful time there, especially when it comes to the dinner itself.
We began our lunch with hot beef soup.
For the main course, there were several types of in the bread-crumbs frying stakes stuffed with different ingredients (like cheese, ham, mushrooms, etc.) or its combinations. As a side dish, we took homegrown baked potatoes and salads (green salad, tomatoes, and grated fresh cabbage).
Besides that, there were also different kinds of grilled meat and sausages with unavoidable čevapčići (chevapchichi - a local dish prepared with meant meat mixture and some spices, formed as thicker rounded small sticks and grilled).
When the food plates arrived on the table the little ones (as you may see at the right top corner of below photo) couldn't wait for their parents who were occupied talking with other family members to fill their plates, but instantly grabbed the desired piece of meat by thrusting in their forks.
Unfortunately, I can't show you the dessert as it vanished almost before than it even arrived at the table, and I didn't have a chance for a single photo to take. But anyway, to complete our yesterday's menu, for dessert, we had pancakes filled with ice cream and flambéed blackberries which were sweet and delicious.
