Day 145: 5 Minute Freewrite: Tuesday - Prompt: deodorize

Spin Doctors are the great dung beetles of our modern political and celebrity world. Whenever someone who fancies themselves to be somebody does something to embarrass themselves in public the cry goes out for a team of dung beetles to come in, clean up the mess and deodorize everything. Just like your everyday dung beetle, there are three basic types of Spin Doctors;

  1. A single beetle or small team forms the poop into a ball and rolls it away to be buried in some hidden location. These are the ones that try to make off with all of the evidence, then they raise doubt of there ever being a problem in the first place.
  2. A large team of beetles jump on the pile of poop and try to bury it in place. Yes, they don't deny it happened, but by the time they are done there is not much of anything left to see.
  3. Then there are those that just make their home and live in it. Instead of trying to hide the pile of poop they just start glorifying it. By the time they are done you are wishing that you had been the one talented enough to have produced such a fine pile of poop.

So the next time you see some spin doctor on your evening news explaining away the big pile of dung that your favorite politician or celebrity just left for all the world to see, remember this analogy and understand why that foul odor is clearing so quickly.

**Disclaimer: I often use the freewrite prompt to tell a story instead of doing a pure freewrite, so they sometimes take longer than 5 minutes and usually have some editing. But I try to do my story straight through at one sitting without any unnecessary breaks.
