5 min Writing Prompt "stranded on the sofa like whales with a plankton's indigestion" #freewrite serial Chapter Three

He sleeps in the hold of the jet turbine and dreams of the long weekend. On the couch that they'd dragged to their campground, sitting with Sluvitch, he's smoking a joint, but there's something in it - something very intense that gets them both more than high.

"We're stranded on the sofa like whales with a plankton's indigestion…" Sluvitch drawls out; an appropriately ridiculous remark. He's about to answer when the girl emerges from the woods and takes his hand, guiding him away. As he follows the girl he can still hear Sluvitch back on the couch, slurring out some more dope induced inanities. They go back to her tent, but once inside they are now in a farmhouse, and she is no longer some weekend fling. She is now his wife.

Fires blaze outside the windows of their farmhouse that they've both shared all their lives. Shadows dance amongst the flames - Sauble Beach on May two four is a lawless place, especially Nawash... She leans in close to him, framed in firelight and shadow.

"The world is on fire," she whispers, cool breath on his cheek. Her eyes flash bright green. "These are the end of our times forever. You must find the collapse. See below…"

His wife of a thousand dreams embraces him deeper into his lonely and lost sleep, careening slowly towards a distant and fractured dawn.
