Homeless (Poem and five minute free write).

Today's free write prompt from @mariannewest is Homeless.

Sometimes people ask me how I smash out a little rhyme in five minutes.

Practice my friends.

There are side effects though, you will be rhyming in your head all the time when you really get in the groove.

I got in a particularly catchy groove when @quillfire taught me to write a Ballard by using the meter and rhythm of the Coca-Cola jingle from the 70s.

The irony of this global giant singing about Buying the world a home isn't lost on me ...

I'd like to build the world a home
And furnish it with love

...and then add some turtle doves and pretty teenage hippy's on a hill top in Italy singing in harmony...

I'd like to teach the world to sing (Sing with me)
In perfect harmony (Perfect harmony)
I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company (That's the real thing)...

No surprise coke didn't bring on world peace in the 70s, or house the world with gardens of apple trees and honey bees and Snow White turtle doves.

They did set the bench march for brilliant advertising.

The 70s were a globally tumultuous time that lead the company along with other giants into the 80s boom.

I thought it worth a mention as I used the technique to complete the following freewrite on HOMELESS.

My five minutes worth-

Homeless

Street lights shimmer in puddles
They once spoke of romance

That's all a distant memory
Locked in a listless trance

As you step around my body
Hold your breath not your glance

Sidestepping as you shuffle past
A fast and awkward dance.

By chance you happen to see me
Exchange pitied askance

Discomfort in comparative
Affluent happenstance.
