The red liquid looked like blood. But she couldn't be sure - and who has blood in a glass on the table? The storm and thunder outside this abandoned house were not helping either. They just made everything becomes spooky. The children were desperately needing this shelter so whatever it takes, she would try to keep them in.

"Now don't scare yourself Mary-Ann. It's probably just tomato juice. Go smell it." She tried to convince herself in her thoughts.

She took small steps, with her hands shivering, reaching out to the glass. She smelled it and realized it was a red paint dye. What a relief!

"Perhaps there is a land-line somewhere that I can use to call someone for help. " No matter how scared she was, she tried not to show it on her face. She is the children's camp counselor and if she freaked out, they would be terrified.

It wasn't easy at all to probe and search in the dark. Sometimes, when the lighting strike, it helped a little. She found an abandoned walkie-talkie. After trying to tune in, she finally could hear another human's voice.

"Hello? We are stranded, and we need help."

Hugo loved flowers and everyone knew this. He has planted many types of flowers in his yard. Mary-Ann was just thinking of thanking Hugo who responded to her call for help the other day. As much as she always felt he is a little quirky and weird, she thought it is only right she shows some thankful gestures, especially when he braved through the storm to locate her and the stranded children.

Though everyone knows Hugo loves flowers, no one knows which types he is fond of. Mary-Ann thought she would just pick a little of everything she could see in the florist store. "That would have got it covered, since there is every type of flowers we have in this town. Hmm, but why am I bringing flowers to him when he has plenty of them in his yard? Oh my stupid brain."

Knocking on the front door hesitantly, Mary-Ann was nervous. She did not know why but perhaps visiting the neighbour wasn't the kind of thing she would have thought she would do one day. What if he has weird stuff in his house? What if he's building a Frankenstein? Though Hugo has a lovely yard, he rarely speak to others. Everyone thought he was mute until he responded to Mary-Ann on the rescue signal the other day.

Before her thoughts could run wilder, Hugo opened the door. He was surprised to see her, but politely invited her in. Mary-Ann looked around the house, it was really neat and tidy. That's very impressive for a guy staying alone. Sheepishly, she handed over the bouquet of flowers she picked up for him. Hugo gave the warmest smile she had ever seen, as if his countenance got lit up by the flowers immediately. It was the best ice breaker.

"So, erm... I just want to say thank you for rescuing me and and the kids the other day. I thought since you planted a lot of flowers, you must be loving them, but then I realized it was a stupid idea since you already have plenty of them, so if you don't like these, it's okay to throw them away, you know," Mary-Ann went blabbering to hide her nervousness.

Hugo only replied this, "It's my mom."

"Pardon me?" Mary-Ann remembered that Hugo has such nice deep low voice.

"She loves flowers and she loves all types. She made me promise her to plant a whole yard to remember her after her death, " he explained.

"Oh I'm so sorry, I don't mean to." Mary-Ann panicked as she saw his tears running down his cheeks. She did not really seeing an elder lady in the house. No one spoke of his mom either.

She thought she could just give him a hug. He did not respond immediately. It felt like he got shocked. But when he finally hugged her back, she could feel tears streaming down like a tap that was held close for too long a time. Perhaps, crying is bliss, especially for him who had held it together for so long and had no friends. maybe she had just returned the favour of him rescuing her.

This is my first attempt in writing a fiction with three prompts. We have to write along the first prompt in 5 minutes, then only we can click on the second promp when the time is up. Same goes to the third prompt to tie a whole story together. This is super challenging, as you can see, I wrote lesser for prompt #2 and #3. Hahaha. I was so relieved when the 15 minutes is over but not too impressed with the story I came out with. My creativity and imagination are so limited, but perhaps they will get better if I keep trying. Well, it was a fun #weekendfreewrite!

Prompt #1:
The red liquid looked like blood. But she couldn't be sure - and who has blood in a glass on the table?

Prompt #2:
Hugo loved flowers and everyone knew this.

Prompt #3:
Crying is bliss.

Freewrite is a prompt writing initiated by @mariannewest and @improv to write a free-flow post without correcting or editing. I checked out her post to really get what it is before I jumped on the bandwagon. Basically, there is no right or wrong, just let the mind and fingers do their work, to find our creative self and let it come out of us.
