For @mariannewest/day-305-5-minute-freewrite-monday-prompt-tears
Let's say tears is
what happens when something is torn
can't be put back together
But that's never true, is it?
It might not be the same, but even a
heart, torn down the middle can be stitched
It takes a delicate touch
and lots of care and attention to detail
and it will never be the same
but it will be more interesting
I think of a shirt with colorful stitches where it has torn and torn and torn
And a darned sock
And the patches I put on my own jeans, even though I didn't know how to sew.
Bulky denim on denim, pulling on the denim so it tears again
But I was proud of the patches
And I'm proud of my scars
My body's inability to invisibly knit my sinew
Less super glue, more
more
more
gumption.
The scars on our hearts can be badges of pride if we'll let them
I got this one from a girl
and this one when my dog died
I got this one when I remembered that my grandma died... remembered because I'd forgotten
I got this one when I was 13 and realized adults would lie terrible lies.
I survived and I'm wiser now.
