She had her best dress on. It was the colour of blood. Red always made her feel special. She looked at her nails. Also blood red. Beautiful. So were her lips. Her eye lashes, with mascara were thick and long. She took a deep breath and sat at The Grand Piano. She gently ran her fingers over the keys and allowed the moment to wash over her.
This was her one true love. The one thing that complimented her as she did it. There was no piece too complicated for her. There was a unison, a harmony as if they were one and the same. She could read notes and play flawlessly. She could embellish it with her feelings. She could play by listening. She could play, full stop.
She was ready for what was coming. She had orchestrated the flow. She had planned it for months. It was just a matter of time. She was ready to play like it was the last time. She laughed out loud because she always did but this time, it could very well be.
She started tinkling the keys, then playing and then she was lost. She was riding rhythms and melodies. The crescendos, staccatos and allegros consuming her very soul. She saw the music in colours, in shades and hues, she felt it like the touch of a lover, the whisper of an answered prayer.
She didn’t stop playing when the doorbell rang, she almost didn’t hear it. She was lost in her head, her body expressing every note. But it didn't matter because she had left it unlocked. She knew they would turn the knob. They walked in and immediately stopped unsure .
She looked like a woman possessed, playing on the keys with a madness, a hunger, a longing, in ecstasy, knowing that she had finally found her freedom. The only way she knew how. And when she finally played the last note, there was silence except for the reverb of that last note. She stayed very still and waited. And it came as expected.
"Mrs. Luigi, you are under arrest for the murder of Mr. Luigi. You have the right to remain silent."
