Day 266: 5 Minute Freewrite Challenge initiated by @mariannewest. Thursday-Prompt: copy

Mockingbird

Two hundred melodies he did compose, one was for the multiflora rose.
Before he could share his vocal with the local,
His territory he had to claim, then he could rise to fame.

He was proud and sang very loud,
All through the night, his melodies were a delight.
He was heard, and on the night of the third,
His love couldn't wait, and she came through the gate.

A baby was soon on the way; now twins he found out one day.
He was there to protect, not neglect.
One dark night, with no moonlight,
They were almost mobbed, and robbed.

His ability to copy, was precise not sloppy.
He mimicked a car alarm, which worked like a charm.
And flapped his bright splashes of white, making them work like one big search light.
The robbers ran with fright, on that fateful night.
He was a one bird act, and kept his family intact.

Mockingbird doesn't say one word,
But his melodies and alarms, were certainly heard.
