What do self-absorption, self-pity and self-righteousness have in common?
Self.
Self: that invisible chain that snaps tight whenever we stray.
"Just be yourself, they say. Which one, I think?”
To be self taught is to have learned from oneself.
Self-consciousness: a weed in the garden of self-awareness
Self-absorption is a turn-off, because lack of self-knowledge is.
The antidote to self-indulgence?
A sense of humor!
The large spirit is slow to receive a compliment; the small spirit quick to misperceive an insult.
At the heart of every vice sits selfishness, yawning.
The problem with being full of yourself is that you cannot fill up with much else.
It is an extension of selfishness not to forgive another what you do not forgive in yourself.
