Saying things once is normal. Saying things twice is OK. Saying things three times is just strange.

Example: How you doin? I'm good. NORMAL. How you doin? I'm good....I'm good. OK. How you doin? I'm good....I'm good....I'm good. NOT NORMAL.

I'm not sure why but repeating yourself once seems to be pretty much an accepted practice.

I talk to people a lot all day because I work at a restaurant.

So I ask the question "How you folks doin?" quite often.

This is Texas.

We talk like that.

Sometimes people will say something like "We're doing quite well."

Other times you'll get something quite simple like "Good."

Oftentimes you might get a response where the words are repeated.

"How you doin?"

"I'm really good........ I'm really good."

It's not unusual.

The same thing can apply to a question.

"You guys good? You guys good?"

Everyday all day I hear things like this.

It occurred to me earlier, though, that you while repeating things once is normal....... you can't really repeat things twice.

Imagine this scenario.

"How you folks doin?"

"We're good.......We're good...... We're good."

Adding the third one makes it sound very alien.

How about this?

"You guys good? You guys good? You guys good?"

Now instead of sounding like a friendly guy who cares about how you're doing I sound like some kind of jerk who is pushy and trying to rush.

I'm not entirely sure when the practice of repeating yourself once actually occurred but I do know repeating yourself twice is simply strange.

I hope you liked this one.
