OST of the Day #19: Quantum Conundrum - It's Our Density 🖲

Hey Steemit!

OSTs make up the majority of the music I listen to, and they're so underrated I just had to share them! Feel free to listen while reading. 😊

Today we're zooming through dimensions in Quantum Conundrum (while enjoying some snazzy music)!

If you've never heard of this game before, Quantum Conundrum is a first-person puzzle-platformer video game developed by Airtight Games and published by Square Enix. It was directed by Kim Swift, who formerly worked at Valve as a lead designer on the critically acclaimed Portal. The game was released for download for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in July 2012.

If you've played the Portal games before, the gameplay is pretty similar, but instead of portals, now you're thinking with dimensions!

Fluffy dimension!

The plot is pretty simple; you're a mute twelve year old boy who's come to stay with your brilliant but peculiar uncle (aka crazy scientist uncle), Professor Fitz Quadwrangle, who's been messing about with experiments and is trapped in another dimension and put the mansion in lockdown. Now you have to rescue your uncle by going through the crazy complex mansion and solving puzzles as you switch between dimensions using the IDS (Inter-Dimensional Shift) glove.

I really loved the Portal series, so I decided to try this game out and it was so cool! The mechanics didn't take that long to get used to, and the puzzles were on the same level as that of Portal. If you're into puzzle games I'd definitely recommend it!

Anyway, on to the song of the day!

The songs kinda blend together for me so it was difficult to select a specific song. But the title of this one is a pun so I couldn't resist. It's called It's Our Density (geddit 'cuz it's science)!

The songs kinda rotate as you progress through the levels so I'm not exactly sure when this particular one will come up, but I believe the first time you hear it will be in the second area or so.

The first 7 seconds or so kinda sounds like a factory because of the echoey "clanging" sound. But I love the bass guitar that comes in after that with the melody, accompanied by the supporting electric notes. There's so many different sounds in this piece I can't quite make out but they harmonise together perfectly. The second melody comes in at 0:53 with a tambourine, which adds another dimension to the song (hehe see what I did there). The bass guitar definitely gives this piece that jazzy feel, and accompanied with the different hi-hat sounds, I can totally see this playing in a factory or assembly line, montage-style.

The composer for this game was Chris Ballew, the basitarist of a an American alternative rock power trio band, called The Presidents of the United States of America! It's no wonder the soundtrack has such a strong bass and most of the melodies are with a bass guitar. He did such a great job; all the songs match the levels perfectly, just like what yee says here

Chris Ballew also wrote and performed the credits song, Flip a Switch! It's pretty rad, have a listen!

Thanks for reading! Ike says bye as he rides Desmond 😄
