OSTs are really underrated but they're so good, so I thought I'd share a song a day and my thoughts about it! I highly recommend listening while reading! 😊
It's been a loooong time since I posted a song from Ace Attorney, and I've grown to love the series so much I just had to post another!
Whoa is Edgeworth actually smiling 😮
Just to recap if you're unfamiliar with this game, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is a visual novel adventure video game developed by Capcom. In the game, you play as Phoenix Wright, a rookie defense attorney, who attempts to have his clients declared "not guilty". The player controls Phoenix through two sets of actions: investigations and courtroom trials. During investigations you gather information and evidence from various locations, including crime scenes. During trials, you cross-examine witnesses, and answer questions from the judge, the prosecutor, and the witnesses themselves.
Now there's even an anime on the series but I've not watched it yet. If you have, let me know what you think about it in the comments! Here's a trailer if you haven't watched it either:
I'm not too sure if I'll like the Japanese voice acting since the videos I watched on Youtube of the game were voice acted by the Let's Player, Lucahjin, herself (and she's really good!). Do check out her videos if you want to get into the series. I'd say it's one of her best series since she pretty much did a perfect blind run of the game. I've never actually played the games myself but I think it's more fun watching her play it blind and solving cases together with her. 😊
Anyway, on to the song of the day!
This song is pretty much the first song you hear in-game, after the intro cutscenes and whatnot. Upon hearing this the first time I knew I was going to love the game because this song is soooo good! It's pretty electronic with the airy synth in the background and the 8-bit melody, but I really like the contrast provided by the bass guitar and the drum beats. Combined together, it definitely makes for a slightly jazzy and catchy tune that's also pretty relaxing. This Trial song is easily one of my favourite courtroom songs in the whole series.
I just love how chill it is, despite it being Phoenix's first official trial. He's undoubtedly nervous but with Mia (his chief/mentor) by his side and this jazzy song playing, he knows he'll be alWright (hehe see what I did there).
The soundtrack was composed by Masakazu Sugimori and Akemi Kimura, former Capcom sound staff members and famous video game composers. They did an amazing job with the soundtrack; every single song is great and very fitting to the scene in which they're played. I like how there's such a wide variety as well, with some chill songs like this one, some upbeat and epic songs like Objection!, and melancholy songs for the murders/backstories.
Shu Takumi did a fantastic job writing the characters in Ace Attorney. I think Miles Edgeworth is a hot fan favourite but I personally fancy Phoenix more since he's more dorky and down-to-earth (and pretty dang hawt too tbh). 😍
Apparently, Takumi spent little time writing a backstory for Phoenix before the game's actual story, and instead developed Phoenix's personality as he went along. He said Phoenix is himself in everything but name, with dialogue similar to what Takumi would have said in each situation in the games. (He must be quite sarcastic and funny too then. 😅) He attributed this to being a first-time writer who did not think about developing characterization before writing the story. For a first time he sure nailed it! Granted, some ideas were scrapped/altered here and there but Takumi sure has talent in writing an engaging story. I'm so glad the series did so well and he ended the trilogy so swimmingly. 😉
