Anyone a fan of Starcraft or E-Gaming? Today's post is all about how competitive gamers are using Steemit to organize and compete with the new release of Starcraft: Remastered. It's no surprise that the Korean community, famous for their E-Sports prowess worldwide, is bringing on tournaments to the world of Steemit. I'll introduce the culture of E-Sports on the peninsula and the people behind Steem-powered Starcraft on Steemit.
As always with Lost in Translation posts, I'll be contributing all SBD made from these posts to the featured author(s). Let's dive in!
E-Sports in South Korea
When anyone mentions E-Sports and competitive gaming today, there is possibly no other country more associated than South Korea. Since the introduction of competitive online gaming in the late 90s and early 2000s and seminal products like Starcraft and Counterstrike, Korea has been the all-around champion of electronic sports.

E-Sports, particularly with PC games, is ever-present in Korean society. PC-bangs (피시방) or “Computer Rooms” are everywhere in the country, allowing anyone access to a high-end gaming rig for about $1 an hour. Especially for young children, playing with your friends via keyboard and mouse is just as (if not more so) ubiquitous as after-school sports or other hobby pastimes.
And unlike most other countries, gaming is a mainstream activity. Cable news channels like MBC and SBS have dedicated gaming coverage that attract millions of views worldwide. Pro players compete for millions in prizes and high wins equal high respect.

Hopefully, the launch of Blizzard's remaster revives the fallout of competitive Starcraft 2 play. Most importantly though, it seems competitive play is finding a new home on Steemit with the KR community's #STEEMWARZ!!
With some real communal motivation, KR Steemians have made most out of their new computer-centric relationships and nurtured a budding gaming group. For the past few weeks, players have been putting on a dedicated Steem-powered Starcraft tournament. Let's look at the key figures today -
Tournament Organizer @realgr
Every great E-Sports endeavor needs a core organizer. @realgr has taken on this role to clearly outline the players involved, structure and schedule of the tournament, gather funds from fellow Steemians who support the activity, and present everything in succinct posts.

He uses both donations and the raised SBD of his posts as prize support. Yesterday, @realgr just announced the next series of #steemwars! If you're interested in supporting or even playing within these tournaments, I would shoot him a message.
Commentary by @hwan100
No tournament is complete without commentary. This part of the competition is led by @hwan100 who takes on the “God View” role to carry spectators through the action on both sides. He does separate posts to integrate stats and reviews for each round in both 1v1 and team tournaments.
You can watch some of his sample recordings below.

Thanks for reading and supporting these awesome initiatives in the KR community! This post's SBD earnings will be transferred to @realgr to fund their next tournament which starts from this coming week. If you like these endeavors, be sure to send them your comments and upvotes!
