Gaming Retrospective - Hellgate London

Hellgate London is an first person/third person ARPG made by Flagship Studios. If you are familiar with David Brevik, one of the key developers of Diablo and Diablo 2 you can expect a quality product. Hellgate London is by any ARPG standard a great game. Game is build upon heavy elements of dark gothic architecture and character models, and all those demons from hell makes it fun and atmospheric, as any ARPG should be.

Story goes as millenia of fight between demons of hell and crusader order came to an end when demons finally invaded earth and made it a hell on earth. All what remained from the crusader order went underground to save themselves and to "tech up" for many years to make the push and bring the fight to the demons again. You start as one of the warriors in a year 2038. and pick 3 classes each with 2 archetypes. Crusaders: Guardians and Blademasters, Cabalists: Summoners and Evokers, Hunters: Marksmen and Engineers. Every class is fun and distinct from one another.

There are 5 story chapters all over destroyed London and when you finish the game you can start again on harder difficulty, standard ARPG process. During combat when you fight with melee weapons game is played from 3rd person perspective and when you use ranged weapons game switches to 1st person perspective. You can switch view as you wish though. What made this game so much fun for me are all the demon types and itemization with addition of smooth and fun action gameplay.

Heavily randomized item system of hundreds base weapon types and many armor types with addition of modes and rarity this game becomes a true gear grinder. Only the best gear can get you through harder modes and powerful late game demons. Stronger the demon, better the loot. Itemization, dark gothic futuristic setting and endless action is what this game is all about. Would recommend to any fan of ARPG genre.
