Gaming Retrospective - Universe at War

Universe at War is one of the more obscure RTS games from 2007. Game was developed by Petroglyph Games known for their Star Wars: Empire at War and recent Grey Goo RTS games. Universe at War plot is connecting multiple alien species fighting over earth resources while humanity barely survives the onslaught. There are three playable alien races and during campaign there are some human tutorial missions, after a few missions they couldn't compete with overpowered aliens anymore. Luckily there are some good aliens called Novus that are here to help save the earth from their mortal enemies Hierarchy.

All three alien factions look and play very different and that diversity of units and build options is the best feature of the game. Hierarcy have massive tri pod walkers that players can modify with addons making them even more unstopable, Novus are anime themed battle mechs, and mysterious thought extinct Masari started emerging from earths oceans and are capable of changing day and night cycles to buff some of their special units. All three factions also have strong hero units. It is stylistically very good looking game with an excellent RTS gaming mechanics, it's a shame it didn't do better at the time of release with the sales. I applaud the effort though.
