What a difference a couple of days make!
Two days ago, the pea plants were sprouting noticeably. It looks like only one seed may not make it. (The left bucket, six o'clock spot.) Something appears to have been munching on it. I expect a certain amount of attrition. Only one non-starter is an acceptable rate. All the others have grown so much that it was clear they'd need their climbing rig sooner rather than later.
Here are the latest pictures, taken this afternoon:

The orange poles are reflective markers I use in the winter to stake out my driveway. This way I'll get double-duty out of them! They're very sturdy and the perfect length for this use.
I attached one to the middle horizontal brace on the trellis with a couple bits of twine. (Apologies for the blur.)
The other two I just embedded as far as I could towards the front of the outer two buckets.

Some more twine,
a well placed anchoring point, and
these little guys now have a plenty of room to grow up and out!

The finished lattice should allow each plant to have good individual support and avoid choking each other as they get larger. If I need to add more twine, it will be easier to do later on when I see where it would do the most good. The plant height is an average of 28-30 inches, so this may be enough. We shall see!
This was the final garden project related to the original firepit reclamation project. With that in mind, I'm going to split the progress report on the garden off into its own series. There are several more steps to go in wrapping up the firepit area and those will be forthcoming very soon. Weather demands have dictated several aspects along the way and planting season insisted on being a priority. Go figure!
