Lily's Bonsai Rose Bush: Vegetative Growth Adventures

I've been bending the branches and pruning this little rose bush (technically four tiny rose bushes) for awhile now and it's been cool to see how it's adapted to the stresses I've given it. Some spots that look like they'd be fairly weak and broken just aren't, they're becoming sturdy.

In a way this rose bush reminds me of myself, twisted and formerly broken in spots but stronger now and growing in spite of it. Thorny too at times, but not so bad that I keep from playing with it.

Here you can see a branch shoot off of a previously bent branch, thriving at the chance to become the tallest shoot.

I regularly pull off leaves and leave them at the base of the plant as mulch, both to get rid of dead and dying leaves and allow better light penetration.

Like this bend looks like it'd move a lot if you touch it but it no longer wants to bend straight, or any direction for that matter.

Old challenges bring new growth, stay tuned, it'll probably flower again soon as it's just in vegetative growth again now.
