Join The Challenge

This is a shout out to all gardeners. It doesnā€™t matter whether youā€™ve got a farm, a backyard, a balcony or only an indoor garden.

Iā€™d like you to join a challenge with me. Maybe ā€˜challengeā€™ is not the right word, because it implies competition.

Maybe I should call it a ā€˜SteemIt Garden Journalā€™.

Iā€™ll explain what I mean with that in a second.

Gardening Season

I assume it might be different in other parts of the world, but here in Belgium, the gardening season has kicked off.

Thousands of people are preparing their garden while growing precious seedlings in propagators and on windowsills.

The Ice Saints

Everybody is anxiously looking at the calendar, counting the days until the so-called ā€˜Ice Saintsā€™ has passed, which takes place on May 12th to May 15th. Those days are known to bring a brief moment of colder weather and might bring the last frosty nights of spring.

Itā€™s only after May 15th, that it is safe to take the plants that are sensitive to frost outside.

And then, the gardening season really takes off.

Pictures

If you are a bit like me, you never visit your garden without your (smartphone) camera.

Last year, Iā€™ve made hundreds of pics of all my veggie plants. If one had grown an inch, I simply had to take a picture.

Now, this gave me the idea of starting a community garden journal. Itā€™s not only a way to get to see other peopleā€™s beautiful gardens, but you finally get a chance to show of yours to people who are interested. (If I show my girlfriend pictures of a kiwano that has grown an inch since last time, she just nods - lol)

The Idea

So hereā€™s my idea:

We make this a monthly journal. Once a month, Iā€™ll put up an invitation post like this one.

Every time, Iā€™ll ask you to make a post in which you show how your garden looks. You can include what youā€™ve done, which things were a success, and especially: which were not.

The pictures will be the most important aspect, however.

If we keep this up until the end of the season, youā€™ll have a great journal that tells the story of your garden. Youā€™ll be able to see how your empty containers or beds turn into beautiful jungles of plants and flowers, and see your garden flourish with every month that goes by.

From past experiences, Iā€™ve learned that such a journal feeds the feeling of accomplishment when youā€™re finally able to pick that first ripe tomato, or the first large zucchini.

And who doesnā€™t like to share his garden stories with like-minded people?

The Challenge

The challenge will start this week.

Hereā€™s your assignment:

I will be setting up a Steem Bounty that will reward you for leaving a correct comment (= title + link).
Read more about how Steem-Bounty works here
At this point, there is a 6SBD Bounty to be distributed.
2SBD were generously donated by @lynncoyle2.

Be a good sport and check out other peopleā€™s journals. If you like them, make sure you upvote their entry in this comments section. This will increase the Steem-Bounty they will earn.

When this post reaches payout, I will check out all entries and give 2 contestants an extra reward: each will get 25% of the generated SBD.

I will put up a post like this once every month. The assignment wonā€™t change: take pictures from your garden, share your happiness about a plant that is growing at warp speed, or your sadness if one of them didnā€™t survive.

Aphids, fungus, caterpillars, heat waves, ... feel free to share. Maybe one of the other community members will know a trick that can help you deal with all this.

I promise you, the pictures will be stunning. They will show you how you started with nothing, and ended up with a magical garden.

What Are You Waiting For?

Grab that camera and start taking pics. Thereā€™s a big chance most of your garden is still empty. Good! Make a photo anyway.

Then write that post, showing us how your garden looks like at the moment. (I will get my own post up asap.)

Use the hashtag #gardenjournal2018 and post the title of and a link to your article in the comments section below. Youā€™ll be rewarded with a percentage of the Steem-Bounty I set and might win a @steembasicincome share.

If you donā€™t want to miss next monthā€™s announcement, feel free to follow me or set up Ginabot on Discord to follow me or the tag '#gardenjournal2018'.
If you are not familiar with Ginabot, check out this step-by-step guide.

Extra Prizes

It is NOT required to upvote or resteem this post to enter the challenge. Of course, it would be appreciated since it will grow the prize pool and get more people to join the challenge.

I will offer some extra prizes if you do:

ā‡ļø 2 randomly chosen upvoters will each receive a @steembasicincome share .

ā‡ļø 2 @steembasicincomeshares will also be offered to 2 people who resteem this post. These winners will also be chosen randomly.

(All @steembasicincomeshares will be sponsored by @organicgardener, which is like my 'gardening-Steepshot account'. Itā€™s still small, so it can use the shares. Of course, I would be grateful for every new follower for that account too. @organicgardener is the place to be for regular updates about my garden.)

I hope you will see the benefits of this ā€˜challengeā€™, and help me build a community of garden lovers, which will grow together and help each other out when needed.

Conclusion

Create a (photo) diary from start to finish, in which you will see your garden grow every month.

Find out how others do it and learn from each other.

Be rewarded for contributing: every valid contribution will receive a share of the Steem-Bounty, plus the upvotes from myself and other users.
At post-payout, 2 people will receive 25% of the generated SBD as an extra reward.

Ready, Set, Go!

Show me how your garden or balcony looks like at the moment. I bet youā€™ll be surprised how much it will have changed when you post new pictures a month from now.
