Glass Adventures: Glass Shop Moves From Kitchen to View Spot and the Kiln Rebuild

It's honestly been awhile since we've shared anything about glassblowing in general, much less the progression of my setup. We're finally getting motivated and moving again and guys, I've officially moved my glass studio out of the kitchen. It's not completely finished being set up as part of that involves completely rebuilding the kiln in it's metal box but it's out of the kitchen and nearly ready to go.

The box was a bit of a headache. We made an agreement with the welder that it'd be done the next day and it wasn't. When it was finished we found the measurements were just the slightest bit off, the thing is a bit too big on all sides. This is an issue partially because John was planning on using tension to keep everything snug inside the thing and it's just not as snug as it could be.

Before this thing was just a fuzzy box of fiberfrax held together by gravity. Now it's a metal encased box of fiberfrax held together by gravity. For anyone wondering that's a super dense insulation used to produce kilns that's made from ceramic dust...like fiberglass but a little different.

It still needs it's heating elements, digital controller, thermometer and wiring but by the time this thing is done it'll be both bigger and nicer than it's ever been, complete with digital controller making it so I don't have to babysit the kiln in the same way.

I've moved my tools over and set them up. The torch and tanks still need moved and mounted but that's a small job comparatively.

The plan has been to blow glass with the view the whole time and we're finally getting to a point where that's looking to be a possible reality.

All set up and ready to blow! Almost.
