BLASTOFF
So things are moving fast and if you missed this week's earlier post, we've just started raising money and putting it to use for our upcoming project, STEEM PARK. Thank you everyone for upvoting it, resteeming it, and donating for rewards, let's keep this Steem-powered ball rolling at high speed!
From here on out, we'll be continuously updating you on the community, design process, and other efforts and engagements we make both on Steemit and in the New York City area. We have a lot of exciting events and efforts coming up so do stay tuned and encourage your Steemit companions to also engage!
A Growing Impact-Oriented Community
Today, we'll be introducing you to some of the key players that are helping us really make a difference in Brooklyn, NY. We of course want this project to not only be exciting and innovative for blockchain and Steemit applications, but also be a highly empowering endeavor for the neighborhood involved. As such, we've sought out and gained the support of some incredible partners surrounding Herbert von King Park in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn.
Wayne Devonish is a steward of Bedford-Stuyvesant community. He's an active figure at the Community Board 3 meetings, heads multiple community groups, and thoroughly represents the bests interests of the area for all ages. Wayne founded the Herbert von King conservancy a few years ago and has spent most of his energies coordinating with influential board members trying to get the park off the ground and in productive shape.
Wayne also founded his own non-profit, 500 Men Making a Difference, to channel the energies of citizens around the neighborhood to get boots on the ground. They've done incredible work including funding drives and a regular clean-up effort specifically for the Herbert von King Park. You can check out his website here and on their facebook page.
Wayne will be with us the entire way, making sure that our efforts are fully integrated into the community's goals and current programs. We're super grateful to have his full backing and open arms.
Musa Hixson
Musa is a prolific local artist, working primarily in both indoor and outdoor sculpture. He made quite a name for himself when he started donating his sculptures to parks in Brooklyn several years ago. Last fall, Musa was awarded one of few rare grants from UNIQLO to install sculptures in parks all around New York city in each of the 5 boroughs. His proposed sculpture, which is part steel leaf arrangement and part seating circle, was chosen to be installed in the Herbert von King park for at least several months unless the conservancy can maintain it for longer.
Musa is an extremely friendly and open-minded man. He was already in the process of creating public programs when we approached him and we're sure that our collaboration will really bring the power of Steemit to local ground with full force.
