Ever Wonder Why Most Kids Can Never Write Like Adults and Most Adults Still Write Like Kids?

The Real Reason Most Kids and Adults Will Never Print Well

If you have ever tried to help children print better, you know, it's usually a struggle. First, most kids will tell you they already “know” how to make their letters and numbers. Unfortunately, this is true. . . even though they really do not know. They don't want you to tell them that their "good enough" letters are just okay, or could look a lot better,or should be much better. Most children write before they are ready.

In most classrooms, kids are shown what the letters look like, told to copy them and that's it. So kids teach themselves to print in a way that makes sense to them . Kids make "good enough" letters and everyone pretends that that is okay. Then they practice over and over incorrectly, until they get really good at doing it wrong, and they don't want to change it!

As a result, most kids start their curved letters on a line (instead of under it) and they will start their straight line letters from the bottom up. (instead of from the top down). So, their letters and numbers, for the rest of their lives, will look lopsided, always be irregular, and look childish. This is why most adults still have sloppy handwriting !and they always will, until they get help.

Without the proper instruction and guidance, children will never develop the pencil control or the shape recognition skills they will need to be good printers. Teaching children to print well takes too much time for most teachers. To be practiced effectively, each letter has to be demonstrated, understood, located, corrected, rechecked, and re-practiced until students can make them correctly over and over. Then, and only then, can anyone practice their letters and numbers on their own and get better !

In these early stages, teachers must watch and help their kids at each step, to show them where each of the strokes and shapes, for each letter and number need to be started and stopped, to be made correctly.

Most teachers don't have the time, training or curriculum to help them teach printing effectively. They don't have a script to follow They don't have 10 Foundation Exercises that build all the Letter Groups from the ground up.
They need our 5 Line "Special Spot" Practice Paper to gradually build skills as the letters become more difficult. Without the right curriculum, the right teaching order, and clear class management policies, most teachers will not be able to teach handwriting effectively. So most kids basically “fake it” and teach themselves.
