Hello Steemers!!!
How are you all, hope shining your smile with white Pearls.
Today we are gonna discuss why exactly does one need to change his brush before 3 months positively? What!! Your brush is 1 yr old and still going on scrubbing?
Is that your Toothbrush?
Mouth
We all know our environment is filled with all kinds of micro organisms either harmful or harmless. So is our mouth, the oral cavity, as it is in direct contact of the surroundings and gets loads of bacteria everytime you yawn, eat with dirty bare hands, drink contaminated water, etc. It is the Saliva, and good oral hygiene habits like brushing, mouth rinsing, etc that keeps the bacteria in check. Mouth is considered to be the Gateway of most of the Diseases.
How does it affects the Brush & Brushing?
Whenever we buy any new toothbrush, we often see it is sealed inside a packet. That is to protect the brush from acquiring bacteria.
When you open and start brushing, it begins to accumilate the bacteria from teeth, tongue, and also from the surroundings. They tend to be small in number initially. The bacterias adhere on the bristles, if kept naked (open) and with time The load of bacterias keep on adding on the toothbrush till it reaches a stage when it becomes unfit for proper and effective efficient brushing. The time period for that to happen is roughly 3 months. The brush would rather have somewhat the same mechnical cleaning effect of teeth as that of a new brush but overall cleaning of oral cavity gets compromised. The load of micro organism removal from oral cavity is reduced.
The bacterias even are transfered from one brush to another if kept in close proximity of other brush and both are kept without cover.
Bristle Fraying
We have often seen that the bristles of our brush afyer using sometime gets distorted or frayed. This is generally normal as the bristles have tendency to fray with regular use, however, if it occurs immediately to a new brush (merely one week) it is due to Hard Brushing. Check out my First post on Proper Brushing Technique.
The fraying of brush is an indication that it is time to replace the tooth brush. If not, the frayed bristles tend to injure your gums and you wont be able to clean the teeth properly not even by using proper technique. The frayed bristles of a brush tend oneself to put more pressure of brush for cleaning, hence harming the supporting tissues of tooth. They can even lead to sometimes the condition of receded gums causing hypersensitivity of teeth or simply tooth Sensitivity.
After a time period of few months (3-4 sometimes even less than that) the bristles starts to show fraying as it looses its elasticity and the brush is rendered not suitable for use.
What precautions need to be Done?
- Avoid Keeping the Brush without cover and try to keep your brush isolated or distant from other brushes.
- Avoid Hard Brushing.
- Brush with a proper Technique.
- Never Use a brush After a period of 3 months.
- Whenever Fraying of Brush happens even if less than 3 months, Buy a new one.
- Always clean your brush thoroughly afyer brushing.
- Avoid exchanging the brush.
So Dispose off your yearly or half yearly toothbrushes and start to have a new one every 3 monthly.
Sometimes, OLD IS JUST GOLD while NEW IS PLATINUM. lol.
I hope this has been helpful in removing some doubts about brushing.
Till next time...
