How to Yoga - Legs Up the Wall Pose

Good day, Steemians!

If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit. -- Banksy

Steemit is so exciting and inspiring
that I'm losing sleep over it.
I stay up late into the night
composing posts, reading content,
exploring the latest apps and developments,
and talking about it to anyone who will listen.
The more I learn, the more I realize I don't know.
Luckily, I never have to wake up to an alarm
as all of my time is my own,
so to forgo sleep in the name of blazing inspiration
is a worthy trade off.
I'm choosing to put lots of my attention and
focus on Steemit these days
because it's just so flippin AWESOME,
and I have lots and lots of coffee and chocolate to run on.
It's thrilling, but I've learned that if I don't replenish my energy stores,
I will run right out of steem and find myself
flailing and cranky and generally
useless to my community.
Thank god that a few minutes in choice poses
can rejuvenate the system completely!
I know i'm not the only one head over heels for Steemit;
there are surely plenty of other users putting in long hours
every day towards the success of this platform.
I share a simple game changer for them today;
may this yoga bless you to face each day fresher, stronger,
peaceful, centered, balanced
and more energized than ever before!

This is Legs Up the Wall Pose

AKA Viparita Karani in Sanskrit
(viparita = turned around/inverted, karani = doing/making)

This is a total restoration.

There is no right or wrong way to yoga:
there is powerful yoga and
gentle yoga and
everything in between.
It's up to you to tune into your body
and decide what's in your best interest.

Legs up the wall pose is THE pose for
whe you need some hardcore REST.
Lay here as long as you want;
this is a seriously, seriously delectable position
that can reset whatever ails you.

This is usually taken for the cooling down phase of a practice,
when the work is done
and the body can fully relax,
or during a slow, decadent, self-indulgent restorative practice
with a focus on nurturing support.
It is passive; the whole being can unwind and calm down
without exerting any effort.

Fully supported by the Earth,
allowing peace to settle in,
just lay down and be quiet--
practice being still.

How to LEGS UP THE WALL POSE:

  • Sit with hip against the wall.
  • Lay down on your back and swing the legs up the wall.
  • Splay arms out to the side.
  • You can use a prop like a folded up blanket or bolster under the back. Allow gravity to pull the hips deeper.
  • Let the breath root the sit bones and thighs into the wall to create more space and extension in the body.
  • Let go of all your weights.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Let the water settle; you will see the moon and stars mirrored in your being. -- Rumi
