may we join forces for ultimate good,
balance potential and kinetic forces to do work
and move mountains.
This is Mountain Pose
AKA Tadasana in Sanskrit
(tada = mountain, asana = pose/posture)
Mountain pose is stability.
Believe it or not, standing here is a genuine pose,
although it's conscious awareness that bring it to yoga.
The subtleties make it; activation in the legs,
rooting through the feet,
opening in the chest and hands
to receive prana for powering up.
You can do this literally anywhere
without looking like too much of a weirdo,
and it's a great trick to pull out when you need to recharge.
This is a fundamental pose,
the opening posture for
practically every practice,
the start and return of sun salutations.
Establish yourself in the strength of a mountain,
move with that energy,
and return to the pose to complete a cycle of flow.
A moment in mountain is a moment to connect
to the full, unwavering support of the earth
and the unlimited expansiveness of the sky.
You are grounded while extending:
take a moment to remember why you're here
and allow possibilities to unfold.
This is steadiness within infinity,
and you can always return.
How to MOUNTAIN POSE:
- From standing, bring the feet together.
- Build from the ground up--root down through all 4 corners of the feet.
- Engage the thighs, spiraling the muscles towards your midline.
- Pull the navel in to energize the abdomen.
- Roll the shoulders up towards the ears and down the back, opening the chest.
- Turn the thumbs towards the body, palms of the hands open the to the front.
- Bring length to the spin and extend through the crown of the head, chin slightly lifted.
- Rejoice in the climb, and enjoy the view.
