How to Yoga - RECLINING HAND TO BIG TOE POSE/Slow and Steady Towards SteemFest!

This is Reclining Hand to Big Toe Pose

AKA Supta Padangustasana in Sanskrit
(supta = reclining, pada = foot, angusta = big toe, asana = pose/posture)

This is serious restoration.

Sundays are great days for yoga;
I like to give my body a slow, refreshing,
revitalizing practice to clear out the week
and begin again.
Reclining hand to big toe pose is a staple for me.

I'm not saying there's a "right" way to yoga,
but if you're struggling to "go farther" in a pose
or trying to get somewhere,
you're overlooking the rich subtleties.

This pose is an incredible practice.
Tight hamstrings can feel limiting,
or you can practice patience
and calm the mind to look within.
Once you've established basics,
you can explore going deeper.

There's nothing that you "should" be doing.
You are where you are, and it's totally fine.
You can relax and enjoy it!

Tuning into recharging mode is super beneficial for the system.
Decompression is a necessity, not a luxury!
The body and mind need the chance to relax and reset.
You don't even have to trust me,
because it's so easy to try for yourself!

Try laying down and putting your leg up in the air.
It feels real good, and if that wasn't reason enough to do it,
it also stretches the hips, hamstrings, lower back,
and relaxes the internal organs.
Opening the body
is freeing for the soul.

Little by little, obstacles will fall away,
and you'll be on your way--
maybe you'll find that the way is the point,
thus to be here now is to be there too.

How to RECLINING HAND TO BIG TOE POSE:

  • Lay on the back.
  • Inhale and draw the knee to the chest. That can feel nice to hold for a bit, so hang out here if you're into it.
  • Exhale and extend the leg.
  • Grasp the big toe or foot. You can hold the ends of a strap or belt looped around the foot if #1 you don't reach the toe, or #2 you want to hold this pose for awhile.
  • Draw the toe towards the head. Wherever the stretch feels luscious is the exact place to maintain.
  • Modification: inhale and lift the head towards the knee.
