Is a Month in Thailand Good Medicine?
Well that certainly depends on where you're coming from doesn't it? Before arriving in Thailand I spent about three month's traveling through Central America finishing off with two weeks in Mexico, then I spent five weeks in the United States. These two countries Mexico and the US, lead the world in obesity and diabetes; and are famous for the SAD diet (Standard American Diet).
I've now been in Thailand for a month. I went from eating McDonald's to Tum Yum Soup, big plates of pasta at expensive restaurants to fresh caught red-snapper on the beach, ice-cream by the pint to an occasional 12oz fruit shake. I've seen my energy and strength go up, and have even seen my six pack starting to show through again.
While in Latin America and the US, I felt inflammation in my body, I felt my asthma coming back, puffiness in my eyes, I felt my body under stress. After a month in Thailand eating only Thai food my asthma has gone away, my puffy eyes and inflammation is all but gone as well.
My spirit has risen. I feel the opposite of depressed. I'm happy to be alive! My body is full of vitamin D from all the natural sunlight I've been getting. I've been walking much more and have only spent about two hours all month in a motor vehicle and that was when I toured the Island of Koh Pha Ngan's beautiful beaches and waterfalls.
My body feels relaxed and rested. I've gotten a professional hour long Thai massage about every other day since I've been here. I've met interesting and inspirational people from around the world. I've gone swimming almost every day and have started doing yoga and other exercises again.
So is Thailand good medicine? I would say for most people reading this, absolutely! Next time your doctor tells you what's wrong with you and starts handing out prescriptions like it's candy to trick-o-treaters; maybe you should just consider going to Thailand for a month, then see how you feel.
