December 14th - material materialism

Our wardrobes fill up, but what about those who have no wardrobe and nothing to put in one as they only have the clothes on their backs.

Its cold out there or new threads might help land a job.

The modern world is steadily losing basic skills, could we make our own clothing if things went from bad to worse?

This is the fourteenth way of serving in 25 ways over 25 days leading up to Christmas.

Its easy:

  1. watch the short clip
  2. follow the instructions
  3. make it happen
  4. then tweet or otherwise share your results using... #lighttheworld... encourage others to participate
  5. 25 days is enough consistency to form a new habit...

If every day this December we are slightly more mindful of others we may find ourselves with a new great habit to continue into the new year and beyond.

THREE SIMPLE WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

  • Learn from a wise king how we should love those in need.
  • Collect winter clothing (old or new) for your local homeless shelter.
  • Recently purchased some new clothes? Donate some old ones to a charity or thrift store.

OTHER WAYS TO PARTICIPATE

  • Learn some basic sewing skills or help someone else to do the same.
  • Invite your children to go through their clothing and identify two complete outfits that can be donated to a thrift store.
  • Knit a cap for a newborn baby and donate it to your local hospital.
  • Buy hand warmers and give them to people working (or living) outside in the cold.
  • Visit JustServe.org for more ways to #LIGHTtheWORLD in your community (U.S. and Canada only).
