Again, the editorial department in charge of the German TV show 'Galileo' (Prosieben) decided to report about crypto currency in their prime time section. Today´s feature story showed a bitcoin mine and their millionaires in Iceland.
It seems that the current bitcoin price record helps to penetrate mainstream media and makes bitcoin and other currencies becoming a public interest.
That´s good news for all of us!
The 'bitcoin millionaire'
Galileo is a daily 'knowledge program' broadcasted on the private TV channel Prosieben, which is the most influential one amoung the younger audience.
With an average market share of +10% and total reach of more than 1 million viewers per show (source: prosieben.de), 'Galileo' has become a popular TV program in Germany. The shows picks out innovations in technology, products and knowledge as well as history as their central themes.
Not surprisingly, the entry of today´s clip about crypto was the current bitcoin price. They opened up saying that bitcoin was almost as valuable as gold these days.
Then Galileo´s reporters team traveled to Iceland in order to inverview a bitcoin mining team there. They showed their impressive servers´ hall in the middle of nowhere.
This guy - and his partners - are spending $2,000,000 in (green) electricity per month (!) to keep running their bitcoin mine:
The message of the clip: running a bitcoin mine is expensive, but crypto currency in general has a lot of potential.
I am not sure if this specific piece was a completely new production. The same team reported about mining already three years ago.
However, the decision to include the piece into the show (again), provides crypto with special attention anyways.
The video on demand version of today´s show is still not available online, but will be in a few hours. Just follow the below copied link:

Don´t forget: If you´re not located in Germany or Austria you´ll need to activate your geo-blocking.
Bitcoin´s current peak is not only treated by strictly technological oriented media. German mainstream TV considers bitcoin worth being promoted during their prime time. As a side effect these kind of broadcastings will help all crypto currencies to become a public interest in the long run.
That´s definitely good news for all of us, independently if we are investors, miners (witnesses) or just blockchain surfers :)
Let´s spread the idea!
