(Note that this was first published here)

I have taken photos of this one before and have shared it in various sites but this time I got to take a closer look at it and the more I look, the more I see different things.

Apparently, this was done by various artists and one of them is my cousin, Ja B. So proud! Jordan Mang-osan is more known for his solar paintings. Both he and Santos Oyan are visual artists.

Tam-awan Village is a congregation of local artists. Not only does it show Cordilleran culture and tradition but it is the place to be for artists. A lot of groups have been formed out from that as more and more artist came in and started branching out on their own.

This particular work of the said artists above is the back wall of Kapiterya, one of the cafes here in the city that I have yet to visit.

First of, notice the different kinds of weaving painted in the background. These represents the different patterns of weaving that can be found in the different regions of the Cordilleras.

This depicts a lady in traditional attire winnowing coffee beans.

The statue painted behind her is called bulul or bul-ul or tinagtaggu. It is carved in a single wood depicting a human either seated or standing. It is said to be a rice god or a guardian or a god of fertility.

Lizards or banyas/alibot are also common feature in Cordilleran sculpture. According to tales of old, this creature was sent by the gods to scare away pests like rats that destroy crops.

The symbols in green triangle above the lizards are called lingling-o. This also symbolizes fertility.

The guy in the painting is also in traditional attire standing in a dap-ay or ato/ator enjoying a cup of hot coffee. I imagine it to be so hot with all that steam coming from it - the way I like how my coffee is. This is where people meet and discuss things or just to enjoy the warmth of the fire. In the midst of a dap-ay a pit where one can build a fire.

Barista and Coffee Academy Asia is based in Metro Manila. This is an affiliate school of American Barista & Coffee School.

Curve Coffee Collaborators on the other hand are local roasters with Philippine coffee as their specialty.

I just learned all these as I was making this blog. I have linked in here where you can check out more information about the names mentioned here.
