CCS Contest "Share the Beauty of Nature around you with us" - Forests, rivers and valleys in Southern Norway

DSC_01.JPG

I have finally decided which part of Norwegian nature I want to share with you. At the same time, I will participate in the competition CCS Contest "Share the Beauty of Nature around you with us and win 100 Steem!" by @visionaer3003 in the CCS community.

Kristiansand is a large port city in the southern part of Norway and this is where I live. A fairly large port city in the very south of the country. I have both sea, beach and forest right outside the living room door, so to say. The mountain areas are north of the city. This tour was by car, but with many stops. I had been in Lyngdal, another coatal town . But instead of driving straight home along the coast, I chose a small detour around Setesdalen to follow the road along the river Otra.

The National highway nr. 9 is the main road that runs all the way from Kristiansand to Haukeligrend in the north ( 266 kilometers ). A large part of the road runs along the river Otra in the valley called Setesdalen. The valley has beautiful scenery that changes as we get further north. Sometimes the terrain is flat agricultural areas. But as you get further up the valley, you come to wilder high mountain areas. Here there are good hiking opportunities in the summer and several popular winter sports venues. You pass small villages and cultivated fields.

We are just north of Kristiansand with only half an hours drive to reach the city and make another stop here to take a walk along the river. From here the valley is called Setesdalen and the intire stretch is scenic and a favorite car trip for us who live in the far south. For every kilometer you drive and for every bend in the road, the scenery is overwhelming. You want to stop after every turn. It can therefore take all day to drive up through the valley. There are many nice rest areas along the river providing plenty of opportunities to sit down and enjoy food you have brought with

This valley has traditions in silversmithing and music that are several hundred years old. The construction technique used a few hundred years ago is also completely unique to the valley. Together with the nature, this makes the valley a popular destination, which sees a lot of tourists in the summer.

The last stop before we reach Kristiansand. The place is Torridal – 5 to 10 minutes drive from the city. The river is still Otra. It is 245 kilometers long, which makes it Norway's eighth longest river. It starts its course towards Kristiansand up in the mountains at Bykle and finally ends in Kristiansand, where it runs out into the sea in Østre havn. On the oposite side we can see some of the houses in Mosby, a village. A small piece of Norwegean nature.
