These photos were taken at a place called Capelinhos on the Azorean island of Faial. The Azores consist of 9 islands, situated in the Atlantic Ocean. Faial is rather small, but has a diverse landscape shaped by volcanic activity. This place at Capelinhos had an eruption in 1957 -58 that actually created additional land causing Faial to become slighty bigger. The landscape here is without plants and trees.
