Digging through the photos I did this autumn, I stumbled upon this cityscape shot of a typical rainy day in the city of St.Petersburg. It was Sunday. I walked along the central street of the city, Nevsky avenue - and looked around for stories that would capture my eye. Alas, even tho it was Sunday, most of the city residents hid from the rain, or were in a hurry about their business, not staying at one spot and presenting no curious stories to shot... Of course, even a person who simply protects himself from the rain with an umbrella may be a suitable subject for street photography.
Anyway, by the end of the walk I was left with several photos, including this delivery courier hurrying somewhere with a load on his back. Its appealing neon-cyan raincoat accentuates the panorama of historic buildings. I like this accent. Living folks in a frame always make urban photography look vivid and alive, without them it becomes rigid, dry, chill. The city is intended primarily for people's living, isn't it? But in fact, at that moment I pressed the shutter, I was photographing only one thing: the curve of the embankment. I liked the composition in the form of a curved letter 'S', or maybe it was 'Z'; in general, the zigzag that the granite embankment lattice formed. And the cycling man just got into the frame in time and brought it to life.
By the way, the courier was passing by the 'Literary Cafe' at Nevsky ave, which - according to the sign - has existed since 1816 (that is 208 years). Here let me to smile... I'm sure this is a nonsense. Of course, the owners of this cafe would love to boast of something that Italy, Austria and many other European countries do have... But alas.
Копая свои осенние фотографии, я выбрал этот кадр с городским пейзажем типичного осеннего дня. Я гулял по центральной улице города - Невскому проспекту - и искал сюжеты, которые бы меня порадовали. Увы, большинство жителей города попрятались от дождя, или спешили по своим делам, не задерживаясь на одном месте и не показывая никаких интересных штук... конечно, даже человек который укрывает себя от дождя при помощи зонтика - подходящая тема для стрит-фото.
Так или иначе, я остался с несколькими фотографиями, в том числе - этот курьер доставки, спешащий куда-то с грузом за спиной. Его яркий неоново-цианового цвета дождевик ставит акцент на панораме исторических зданий. Мне нравится этот акцент. Живые люди всегда оживляют городскую фотографию, которая без них ставновится сухой и безжизненной. Город предназначен в первую очередь для жизни людей, не так ли? Но на самом деле, в тот момент когда я нажимал затвор, я фотографировал только одну вещь: изгиб набережной. Мне понравилась композиция в виде изогнутой буквы 'S' , или может 'Z', в общем тот зигзаг, который образовала решетка гранитной набережной. А человек на велосипеде вовремя попал в кадр и оживил его.
Кстати, курьер проезжает мимо "Литературного кафе" на Невском проспекте, которое - если верить вывеске - существует с 1816 года, то есть 208 лет. Смешно! Уверен, что это натуральная брехня. Просто владельцам оного кафе охота похвастать чем-то таким, что есть у Италии, Австрии и других европейских стран.... Но увы.
