We all can remember some point in secondary school when we have procrastinated in starting our assignments or studying for a test. Procrastination is also very common among students in universities. You know what you suppose to be doing but you just can't do it. It's very easy to lay over from time consuming projects/assignments until the due date, but when you do that, you may have to indulge an all-nighter. Here are steps to avoid procrastination.
1. Be Organized
A person is more likely to procrastinate if he doesn't have a plan or goal for completing his work. Make use of a planning scheme, You should start keeping records of all your assignments/project and their due dates. Once you're organized, it gives you an orderly and precise structure of work to be done.
2. Eliminate All Forms Of Distraction
Eliminating all forms of distraction is another step to avoiding procrastination. By restricting the number of distractions around you, you're creating an opportunity for yourself to get what you need to be done. Turn off your phone, find a quiet place to meditate and study.
3. Learn How To Prioritize
Prioritize doing your important work before others to help you avoid procrastination. Each week or so, make a list of what needs to be finished. Make sure you attend the most critical or time-consuming assignments first. After that, work your way till the end of list. Get the hard stuff off the way first, so that everything that comes after will seem more easier.
4. Set Goals
Most reasons you might procrastinate is because of what you have to do will look overwhelming. It's more easier to get started on a project when you constitute reachable goals rather than face a bulky and big plan. Instead of telling yourself, "I'll study Physic tonight," you might instead say, "I'll study chapter eight tonight." This makes your goals less terrifying and more achievable.
5. Set Deadlines
Another way to tackle procrastination is to set deadlines. Many scholars get stuck In the " I'll do it tomorrow or soon" cycle despite the truth is, that day will never come. It's adviceble to set a specific date for when you want a project or work to be completed. Make sure you have that projects or work completed two to three days In advance. This way, if something unexpected occurs, you still have extra time to complete them.
6. Reward Yourself
Also, rewarding yourself can create motivation to complete a task and help avoid procrastination. After studying for a test or completing a project, consider giving yourself a reward. It could be as simple as, "Once I finish this project, I can play Call Of Duty.
7. Be Accountable
Hold yourself accountable for completing your project/work on time, studying for tests and getting good is another way to avoid procrastination. While it's easy to find reasons not to study and take unnecessary long breaks, sieze yourself before this happens. Remember that you are responsible for the projects you finish or didn't finish, the exams you ace or don't do so well on, and your grades.
