Hello kids and parents!
No winner! Wow!
I rocked the cradle this week! I caused some thinking problems for all of you unless Aunty Google took the Easter weekend off.
Last look at the clues that got you all scratching your heads;
1. We stayed with a 14-letter word
2. It is a verb
3. Name + animal
4. It is supposed to decrease something
And the word is… “GERRYMANDERING”
Oh man, am I excited to teach you all about this word!
Gerrymandering is when a country, a state, or even a town is divided into election districts so that it gives an unfair advantage to one of the political parties.
Gerrymander/Gerrymandering is one of the top 12 weirdest words of the 750,000+ words the English language consists of. Why?
Elbridge Gerry, governor of Massachusetts in 1812, approved and signed into law a change to the district to give his political party, the Republicans, the capability to have the upper hand in the next election.
Once the area was viewed on a map it took the shape of a Salamander. And that is where the word originated from.
Gerry + Salamander = Gerrymander
The Boston Gazette then publish a map with the heading “The Gerrymander: a New Species of Monster.”

Till today gerrymandering is taught in history classes.
Did Gerry win the election that year? The answer is no.
And we don’t have a winner this week!
This brings the prize for this contest to 4 STEEM!
Time for your next game!
The game is exactly like last week;
The game “I spy with my little eye” is sort of a detective game. The “spy” is the person who sees something and the rest of the players must then guess what the spy is seeing.
Of importance, it must be something that you can see and not something you can feel like an emotion.
BUT, “I spy with my little eye” is so much more than just a spy game;
- It is a thinking game
- It teaches you how to use your logic and reasoning and
- It grows your vocabulary
The contest
For today I am going to give you the letter with which the word starts plus 4 points or “clues” which you can take into consideration to figure out what the word can be.
Ready or not… let’s learn, play and win!
I spy with my little eye something that begins with the letter “U”.
1. It is a 15-letter word
2. Not eligible
3. Not secured
4. Amiss
