Wednesday – I spy with my little eye – Mini contest (43)

Hello kids and parents!

Aahh!! I got you guys thinking this week. And that is exactly what this game is all about, getting you to think. Thinking and reasoning are of the utmost importance to keep our brains active and healthy, and if we can do it while we are having fun, what more can we ask for?

Let’s take a closer look at last week’s clues and how we can put our brains to work.

1. It is a 10-letter word starting with “N” – Okay this is straight forward

2. Not sure, scratching something, or – What can I be scratching when I am not sure? My head?

3. Maybe it is composed – What do I compose? My feelings, my emotions, or even my actions. Why will it be scratched OR composed?

4. A state – Will it leave me in a state? Bewildered? Confused?

Conclusion: What will it be if I am scratching my head or if it plays with my feelings or emotions and I am in a state? Can it be that I am confused or perplexed?

What is a synonym for confused or perplexed? Now the search starts to find that “N” word.

And the word is… “NONPLUSSED”

What makes the word nonplussed so interesting is the prefix “non”.

Well, in this case, “non” is not actually a prefix, or is it?

1600’s – the word nonplussed derives as a noun from the Latin word “non plus” which actually means “no more.”

1700’s – All of a sudden nonplussed is now a verb and means “loss of words or don’t know what to say.”

20th Century – Some start using nonplussed in place of “unconcerned or unruffled.”

For me, nonplussed will always be that state I find myself in when I don’t know what to say.

That brings us to the winner…

Unfortunately, there is still no winner. That will take this week’s winnings to 6 STEEM.

Time for your next game!

The game is exactly like last week;

The game “I spy with my little eye” is sort of a detective game. The “spy” is the person who sees something and the rest of the players must then guess what the spy is seeing.

Of importance, it must be something that you can see and not something you can feel like an emotion.

BUT, “I spy with my little eye” is so much more than just a spy game;

  • It is a thinking game
  • It teaches you how to use your logic and reasoning and
  • It grows your vocabulary
