Wednesday – I spy with my little eye – Mini contest (66)

Hello SteemKids and Parents!

Last week, I mentioned that there is never a dull moment in the English language. Well, the same goes for Steemit.
A lot of AI usage, plagiarism, and self-plagiarism are surfacing. Don’t make yourself guilty by using any of these.

Enough preaching! Let’s take a last look at last week’s clues.

1. It is a 8-letter word staring with “E”
2. It is a compound word
3. The hearing is missed
4. Nonetheless it still makes sense

And I have all of you! The clue of “hearing is missed” made you all “grabbing” your earphones and earplugs. Gotcha!

The correct word is "EGGCORN."

What on earth is an eggcorn? Yes, I can see you frowning.

This image is from Wikepedia, and if you look closely at it, you will see the words “pre-fixed” written on the menu board. Now, this means that the menu is fixed.

It is an EGGCORN of the French term “prix fixe” which means fixed price.

That, my dear Kids & Parents, is what an EGGCORN is.
“It is the alteration of a phrase through the mishearing or reinterpretation of one or more of its elements, creating a new phrase having a different meaning from the original but which still makes sense and is plausible when used in the same context.”
By Wikepedia.

It makes me wonder: are those plagiarism posts we see not “eggcorns?”
Enjoy your guessing and posting this week!

Unfortunately, there is no winner and the prize for next week’s contest will be 4 STEEM.

Time for your next game!

The game is exactly like last week;

The game “I spy with my little eye” is sort of a detective game. The “spy” is the person who sees something, and the rest of the players must then guess what the spy is seeing.

Of importance, it must be something that you can see and not something you can feel, like an emotion.

BUT, “I spy with my little eye” is so much more than just a spy game;

  • It is a thinking game
  • It teaches you how to use your logic and reasoning and
  • It grows your vocabulary

The contest

For today, I am going to give you the letter with which the word starts plus 4 points, or “clues,” that you can take into consideration to figure out what the word can be.

Ready or not… let’s learn, play, and win!

I spy with my little eye something that begins with the letter “B"

1. It is a 10-letter word
2. Block
3. Brick
4. Burn

How to participate?

  • You can reply to this post by posting your word, or you can write an article about your word
  • You can only enter once

What is up for grabs?

The first correct answer will take home 4 STEEM this week.

The word and the winner will be announced next week on Wednesday; therefore, make sure you don't send in your answer later than Tuesday 23:59 UTC.

If there is no winner, the prize will carry over until there is one.

Until next week, keep guessing!
