Because of how popular it is, a festival called iri ji ohuru/iwa ji (new yam festival) is always celebrated every year around august and September to mark the end of a planting season and the beginning of a new cycle. It is equally done to thank God for the success of the harvest. Today, I will be teaching you guys how to make porridge yam. This method of preparing yam is very fast, easy and delicious. Let me start with listing the ingredients.
Ingredients for porridge yam
Yam
Onions
Fresh pepper
Crayfish
Salt
Red oil
Seasoning cubes
Vegetables (optional)
Procedures
Peel and wash your yam.
Slice the yam into tiny pieces
Add the yam to the pot.
Add enough water to cook the yam
Put it on heat and cook until it's tender.
While the yam is boiling, wash and slice your vegetables and keep them aside.
Slice your onions and pepper and set them aside.
Once the yam starts boiling, add the blended onions and pepper to the pot.
Add the blended crayfish
Add red oil to the pot.
Add seasoning cubes and salt to taste.
Allow to cook for a while.
When the yam is tender enough, add your sliced vegetable to the pot, stir and cook for 5minutes.
Check for salt, stir the food and turn off the heat.
Your delicious yam porridge is ready, best served while hot.
