Food challenge contest week #81|| For kids and parents| Teach The Kids/Kids Food Challenge| share Your Food Diary With Us

Hello Steemit friends. It’s nice to be here to share to share my little knowledge with us on how to fix a particular kind of food. For today’s contest, I’ll be showing us how prepare a delicious okro and melon soup.

This soup is not hard to prepare, and trust me, it’s one of those soups that you can fix within few minutes with no qualms.

We’ll begin by going to the market to get the things that’d be needed.

Ingredients

• Okro
• Melon
• Palm oil
• Stock fish
• Beef
• Fish
• Crayfish
• Pepper
• Salt
• Maggi
• Cow skin
• Vegetables
• Periwinkle

These are the major things needed in your pot of soup to make it sumptuous. The ingredients however, are not limited to these.

Now that everything is ready, we begin by washing our periwinkle, stockfish and cowskin into the pot. This is to steam it first before we begin the cooking proper. When steaming, some salt, pepper and maggi are needed to make it tasty, and a little amount of water.

When this is well cooked, the next thing is to add the amount of water perfect for the soup. The next step is to pour in the palm oil and cover the pot back. This is to make the oil mix with the water.

Fish

There are times the oil used in cooking stand out from the water in the soup. But adding the right kind of oil to the soup at the right time eliminates this error.

When the water is boiled and the oil well mixed, we can proceed to adding our already cut okro and melon. This time, the pot will be left opened.

This is so that the soup will draw, just as the idea was conceived when okro was bought. This will heat up for some minutes before fish and the other ingredients are added to the soup. I like having a lot of crayfish in my soup, so this was no exception.

When everything is put together, the soup should be allowed to heat up for a few more minutes before adding the vegetables to it. Vegetables are nutritional when it’s not overcooked. At this point, our pokro and melon soup is ready to serve.

Me and my already prepared meal

You can choose to have this with garri, foofoo, semolina or any other pasta you can think of. As for me, I had mine with garri.
Although you can have this at any time of the day, I’d advise you have it for lunch so it can digest well.

The health benefits cannot be left out.

They include:

  • Fat and oil.
  • Helps in strengthening of the bones.
  • Supports the immune system.
  • Vitamin C and K.
  • Low in calories, fat, and sodium.

These and many more are the health benefits of having such a palatable meal.
Hope you enjoyed learning today.

Would like to invite @ukpono, @miriami, and @sariana23 to take part in this challenge.
