Handicrafts from coconut shells are one of the most common handicrafts found in Aceh/Indonesia, especially in remote areas ("kampung"), people who cannot work like other people can be said to be elderly people ("elderly") they create an easy job to do.
Basically, all coconut trees can be used from the roots to the leaves and even according to their respective arts, we can easily make coconuts as sweets like compote, and have sufficient nutrition, coconut water in addition to adding body ions, coconut water is used as candy . When it comes to tree trunks, they can be used as household appliances.
Coconut meat and water that can be consumed, coconut leaves for leaf wrapping, to coconut shells that can be turned into handicrafts.
These handicrafts can be found in souvenir shops typical of the region, because the craftsmen make the appearance of the shape and color to be exotic, unique and beautiful.
By making coconut shells as handicrafts, the selling price is higher.

This coconut shell waste was previously widely used by the people of Aceh/Indonesia as fuel for cooking to fuel for making bricks.
Then, because there was too much coconut shell waste, the craftsmen began to use this waste as raw materials for handicrafts.
Apart from being easy to obtain, coconut shell waste can also be obtained at very cheap prices.
To be used as a basic material for handicrafts from coconut shells, the coconut shell must be cleaned first and sanded roughly to make it have a clean and smooth texture.
Coconut shell sandpaper is cleaned until the outside is very smooth.
Divide two coconut shells of the same size using a chainsaw. Especially for making cups, you have to use the same size, divide by 1/2 and use the same size.
If you don't have a grinder or saw, we can ask a carpenter to cut the coconut shell.
So that the shape is the same, we can mark it with a line using a pen or pencil.
Smooth again using sandpaper until smooth.
Apply coconut shell with wood paint / varnish on the outside. Meanwhile, the inside is left alone.
For the cup, attach the semicircle of wood using wood glue until it is completely glued.
Dry the coconut shells until the varnish dries.
Apply wooden paint to all parts of the coconut shell bowl using cotton to make it look more shiny.
