Hello! It is another moment for us as a team to make our application post for Engagement Challenge Season 20. I will be sharing our teaching team application post on "Team-Agro" and also hopeful that we are given the job to serve in the same capacity. @mainuna and @xkool24 would be anchors in the team.

Agriculture is one universal word that has one language across the globe. It is a practice that has continued to improve the sustainability and existence of humans from time immemorial. It has continued to evolve as technological advancement and application in the sector continue to grow. A vital sector that needs continuous improvement to ensure world food security and environmental stewardship.

These are some of the areas we would be dishing out. However, get to know us as we present our CVs to you.

I am @mainuna. Joined Steemit in 2021. I try to stay active with my agriculture-based posts on Steemit from time to time. I completed my studies in agriculture a few years ago. Because after passing the 10th standard, you have to study agriculture for 4 years.

I am currently employed in an agricultural company as an agronomist where I have continued to do what I know best. In the same vein, I have been involved in various agricultural projects during my four years of study, one of which was seedling production by tissue culture method. This is a method, most of us would want to know more about. Very amazing!!!

There is also project work on robotics for agriculture and research on growing crops at the right scale. Another agricultural project I have been working on for quite some time is the proper use of C14. I am also working as a supervisor for several projects, namely Black Rice Project, Orange Farming, and Dragon Farming.

For my position on Steemit, I am employed as a moderator in Steem Entrepreneurs, where I have continued to moderate several Agricultural contest topics.

This is me @xkool24 from Nigeria. I joined the Steemit platform in November 2020, and it has been quite an interesting journey for me because it has been an awesome journey all along. I have achieved many things, and among them is helping build the country's community to its enviable position.

I am an Agricultural Economist from one of the renowned Universities in the country with upper honors and also over a decade experience in telecommunication business and retail sales. Before joining a career path with the telecommunication industry, I participated in several Agricultural projects, such as snail production, farm practice and yield growth, appraisals of poultry farmers' access to micro-credits, etc.

Steemit is part of my daily life, I am always active both in the role of administrator/moderator sponsoring contests and other activities or in the role of user participating in contests and dynamics of different communities. Thanks to this, I have managed to boost my account and am currently getting close to getting my third dolphin, which motivates me to continue working with commitment and discipline.

I was a member of the greeters fairy team a few years ago, which was a very interesting experience for me. This was a time, we were greatly saddled with the responsibility of training, guiding, and reviewing these newbies in the ecosystem especially from member country.

I'm also an admin in @steem4nigeria community, the largest community of Nigerians on Steem Blockchain. A community that I've maintained with my experience-founders from start till date. Effort and growth that is enviable in the community status.

We already have a six-week pack of agricultural topics lined up for our teaching, but for this application, we will be presenting to you just three out of these six topics.

Week One Topic

Impact of Agriculture on Climate Change

image.png

Agriculture has been seen to play a significant role in climate change, whereby about 25% accounts for its contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. These may be traced to emissions from Nitrous oxide (N²O), mainly from our soils and fertilizers, methane (CH⁴) from animal dumps and manure, and CO² from deforestation and other land use activities.

A full discussion on this topic would take a multi-dimensional approach whereby the government, farmers, and end users' sides would all be taken into consideration. However, we know that adopting all positive approaches that are tailored to climate-friendly agriculture will bring about lower negative impacts and as well higher agricultural yields.

Homework for Students
  1. Describe how agricultural productivity is affected by climate change.

  2. Discuss how extreme rains and extreme droughts damage crops.

  3. Discuss in stages how new pests and diseases are emerging as a result of climate change and what measures farmers can take to prevent them.

  4. Discuss what changes in irrigation systems are required due to climate change.

  5. Discuss what technologies can be used to address the problem of soil erosion and salinity due to climate change.

Week Two Topic

Uses of Tissue Culture in Agriculture

image.png

When tissue culture is mentioned in agriculture, it is a technique or practice that helps the growing of plants outside the conventional soil we are all used to. This is a practice that helps enhance the Micropropagation of plants, improve plant varieties that are capable of withstanding external traits, improve seedlings, conservation, and disease elimination; by improving best practices on tissue culture, we can ensure a more resilient and product yields across the globe. This will in turn , sustainable crop production and reliable world food security.

Homework for Students
  1. Discuss how tissue culture methods in agriculture can increase crop productivity and help in the production of disease-free plants.

  2. What is the quality of tissue culture crops? How does it improve our agriculture?

  3. Discuss which crops are most successfully grown using tissue culture methods.

  4. Discuss the problems faced by farmers while using tissue culture method.

  5. Discuss the benefits of the tissue culture method in the agriculture sector.

Week Three Topic

Use of Drones in Agriculture

image.png

Precision agriculture or agricultural drones is a field that has continued to receive all the support, given the technological drive approach to solve farm practices. The use of UAVs in agriculture now makes crop management, monitoring, and harvesting much better vis-a-vis the then manual practices.

Some of the areas where the use of drones in agriculture has improved include crop supervision, disease management and control, fertilizer application, precision use, seed planting, and harvesting, etc. All these would expand the world of agriculture and agricultural revolutionization.

Homework for Students
  1. Discuss how drones help in crop health monitoring and disease detection.

  2. How to improve irrigation efficiency by using drones in agriculture?

  3. Share your views on how drones can make pesticides and fertilizers more accurate and efficient.

  4. What is your opinion on the role that drones play in measuring agricultural land?

  5. Share your comments on how harvest forecasting and yield estimation are done using drones in modern agriculture.

Thank you
