CHILD OF THE PLAINS

One could battle the speed of light to catch a glimpse of her in the shimmering sun rays
She always takes her first breath watching the eagles glide above the aspen spruces She played with the hummingbirds, who taught her to sing alongside the dazzling tides The forest cared for her so much that the roses would shed their tongs for them to be in her embrace The fireflies would battle with the crimson moon to illuminate her path at night The wolfs would always howled at night in harmony, in hopes to make her smile The bears fell in love with her for she knew where the sweetest honey could be found Even the cheater stalking its prey would lose concentration once it felt her presence Sitting next to her admiring the rolling clouds twinkle and shine from the rays of sunlight above One day, she woke to an eerie silence, the hummingbirds quiet, the tides still, only hearing the snaps of tree branches Who had intruded was ‘MAN’, rumbling through the forest, bringing down tress as they said they wanted ‘roads’, mining for something they called ‘Natural Resources’, taking the lives of animals as they said they were hunting for ‘game’, leveling through the home of the ‘ Child of the Plains’ and massacring her dear friends for whatever reasons they had And as she thought the storm had quelled down, the wildfires started She cried as the rains followed her tears, the thunder road with her cries But no matter how much she did, she could never quench the wildfires of Venezuela.
