Another beautiful day for the pregnant women!! It's health talk o'clock ๐Ÿ˜Š.

This beautiful day started on a brighter note. It was giving positive vibes and good energy. Despite the rain in the early morning hours, I left the house with my umbrella down to my work place.

I arrived at the University of Uyo teaching hospital a little later than expected, obviously because of the rain and other traffic hindrances along the way.

Health talk for Pregnant women was supposed to start at exactly 9:00 am and I was scheduled to present.

I gathered my talk together and was ready for my presentation to the women.

At around 9:15am I was on the stage, pregnant women and nurses were all seated to listen to me.

Do you wanna know the truth? I was practically nervous!!! But as I started, it flowed well and the presentation went just fine.

I was speaking to the ladies on urinary tract infections in pregnancy. If you want to view an excerpt from the health talk, follow the link below:

This topic is so important and timely because UTIs are very common during pregnancy. For obvious reasons being that:

๐Ÿ“ŒThe uterus gets weighty as pregnancy progresses, and the uterus sits directly on the bladder which sometimes obstructs complete drainage of urine from the bladder.

๐Ÿ“ŒPregnancy hormones such as oestrogens and progestins being secreted in high quantities can reduce the body's ability to first infections.

Most importantly discussed, was the role of antibiotics in the treatment of UTIs and not neglecting how these UTIs can be prevented in a number of ways.

While giving my presentation, I stressed the need for good personal hygiene as this will help mother and child avoid infections.

Others preventive measures which I mentioned include:

  • Drinking plenty of water.
  • Urinating frequently as an urge is felt.
  • Emptying the bladder completely.
  • Wiping from front to back after using the toilet.
  • Drinking yogurt is very recommendable as it contains certain probiotics.
  • Avoid silky dark coloured pants, go for breathable cotton pants.
  • Avoid tight fitted pants.
  • Avoid the use of strong feminelle wash, douches and fragrances in your genitals.

Trust me, this must have been the best session for these women. At the end of the discussion, I had the majority of them ask questions to clarify doubts.

They also expressed their appreciation and gratefulness, and even promised to carry out all chips penned down.

One expectant mother called me out at the end of the session, with a very bright and sincere tone, she admitted:

I really enjoyed your presentation, this has to be one of the best health talks I've attended in a long while. Thank you for lecturing us.

At that point I felt fulfilled,I felt like I had given out something to people who really needed it. I was happy I could give that presentation.

It was really an eventful day. I'd say memorable and impactful.

I look forward to having more interesting health talks with the women.
