NYSC Camp experience : Daily routine

Hello Steemit family, it's another day to share my experience at the NYSC orientation camp. It's a camp and we are not permitted to step out of the camp premises. We can move around the camp but not outside the camp.

Our general uniform in this camp is white polo and white shorts, white socks and white canvas. So that's the uniform y'all will frequently see me on. Then seldomly the complete 7/7 NYSC uniform.

So today, we carried out the usual routine, waking up early to bathe and getting ready for morning meditation. Today's morning meditation was on efficiency.

It was emphasized that in all we do, we need to be efficient at it, giving it all our best. We were given 2 minutes to meditate on what we have been told.

I couldn't be in the morning drill because my attention was needed at the pharmacy clinic.

I forgot to mention that I registered at the clinic as a kopa pharmacist and I have on my tag written “pharmacist on duty”.

So I went to the pharmacy to dispense medication to corp members who probably have been injured in the field or developed illness that can be managed in the clinic or corp members with already existing conditions.

I attended to these patients and dispensed their prescribed medication. We even had other military officials who came to be treated well.

Just after a few hours of being at the clinic, it was time for the SAED program (skill acquisition and empowerment program).

The SAED program is designed to help corp members acquire necessary entrepreneurship skills and it also offers empowerment opportunities to corp members.

Different skills were introduced to us to make our choice of one to participate in.

The different skills introduced included:

  • Baking
  • Solar installation
  • Aluminum work
  • Tailoring
  • Wigging and wig installation
  • Make-up/cosmetology
  • Shoe making from scratch
  • Interior decoration
  • Making fascinators and head band etc

These skills are all very important because it makes one very independent and functional.

An empowerment program was organized to give a corp member who write and impressive business plan a sum of #800k. That's a huge amount of money on my country's currency.

Former ex corpers were invited to give their experience on the SAED program. A Lot of positive speeches were given on how this skill acquisition has impacted significantly on their life. And we were encouraged to take the program very seriously.

For me I think I'll go for the baking because I have little or no idea about baking. I'm sure it will be an amazing experience. I hope to actually further this training when I'm out of the orientation camp.

We had a time where we lined up in a cue and waited for food. Actually, this is a normal procedure that happens three times a day. We lined up and collected our food in very discreet and orderly manner.

I got my dinner which was the last thing, got back to the hostel, ate, freshened up and retired for the night.
